Food Resource Guide II: Where (and what) to Give

Each branch of Buncombe County Public Libraries is collecting food to support MANNA FoodBank, which serves more than 137,000 people per month in Western North Carolina. The food drive aims to collect shelf-stable foods like canned fruits and vegetables, proteins like chicken and tuna (pouches preferred), and dried beans and rice. You can drop off non-perishable food at any one of the 12 library branches during hours of operation.

Needed Items for Food Drives

  • Please no glass containers (they can break, ruining food and endangering people)
  • Canned proteins (chicken, tuna)
  •  Shelf-stable milk (2% or regular)
  •  Low-sodium soups
  • Canned entrees (chili, red beans and rice, raviolis, chicken chili, spaghetti etc.)
  •  Canned fruits (In water)
  •  Canned vegetables (no salt added)
  •  Rice
  •  Pasta and pasta dishes
  •  Pasta sauce in cans
  •  Rice side dishes in a box
  •  Baby formula (just add water)
  •  Baby food in plastic containers
  •  Low-sugar cereals and oatmeal

MANNA also accepts donations at the Volunteer Center on the side of its warehouse at 99 Broadpointe Drive, Mills River.
