One of our major annual successes is our sellout CBI community Seder, this year to be held on
the 2nd night, Sunday, April 13. We conduct this “Dinner theatre style,” with a script I’ve written
and the roles taken by intrepid volunteers. This year we need 5 individuals to take a part. The
theme will be characters mentioned in the Haggadah who weren’t given a “speaking part” in the
Haggadah. At our CBI Seder, we’ll be giving them the opportunity to finally speak up. All you
need is to have made reservations to attend the Seder and the ability to project your voice
throughout the room without a microphone. I hope to have one rehearsal prior to the event.
Please let me know if you’d like to be considered for a role.
New this year: There is a time honored Pesach tradition of “biur chametz,” that is, “burning the
chametz” on Erev Pesach. Usually folks are too busy preparing their own Seder to consider a
shul program a few hours before the meal. This year, however, due to Erev Pesach falling on
Shabbat, the ritual burning of the chametz is pushed up a day earlier, thus creating a window.
As it happens, we have a rarely used fire pit at CBI. You can probably see where this is going.
I’m inviting the community to join me in burning the chametz at the CBI fire pit from 12pm -1pm
on Friday, April 11. I will provide a free pizza lunch (while supplies last). Come, eat, schmooze,
and burn some chametz. Bring crackers, leftover bread, noodles, what have you, but please no
plastic or other containers that we can’t throw into the fire. This event will be canceled without
notice in the event of inclement weather, so use your judgment if it looks like rain.
Speaking of chametz, don’t forget to sell yours. The tradition is to appoint the rabbi as your
shliach, or agent, to sell for the duration of the holiday any chametz you may own by turning in
the form found in this HaShofar prior by Friday morning, April 11.
May we all merit a liberating Passover!
